Of all the games that have taken the online gaming industry by storm in recent years, one of the most successful must be Slingo. This innovative mash-up of Bingo and Slots is one of the most popular games around, taking pride of place on many self-respecting casinos’ roster of options.
The game was invented and trademarked by a New Jersey housing developer called Sal Falciglia in 1994. He founded his company Slingo Inc in order to market and promote his brainchild. It was a slow process at first, but he earned his rewards as the entertaining hybrid game gradually increased in popularity. So successful was his invention, that within twenty years, he was able to sell his concept for nearly $16 million to the United States based Real Networks.
For European and United Kingdom based players though, the real breakthrough for the game was when it was sold on to current owners Gaming Realms. This London based company saw its potential to the bingo hungry UK market and quickly launched the game shortly after its acquisition in July 2015. Slingo remains under the wing of Gaming Realms to this day.
Originally launched via the Slingo.com site, the game is now promoted widely throughout the online casino industry. It is popular with both slot and bingo players alike, and from the casino operators’ point of view, is seen as a good way of encouraging traditional bingo players into the more lucrative (for them) slot market.
There are now various versions of the game, although the original classic version remains the most popular with many players. Alternative brands of the game include Deal or no Deal Slingo, X Factor Slingo and even Love Island Slingo, but there are now at least a dozen different incarnations of the game in existence. The game can be played on any kind of device, with mobile versions of the game now readily available.
There is no sign of the popularity of the game being on the wane just yet, especially as parent company Gaming Realms have plans to develop the concept still further. A licencing deal has recently been signed with industry giants Scientific Games to develop a new Slingo Monopoly game, and with more concepts in the pipeline, the future growth of Mr Falciglia’s clever invention seem assured.
Slingo is available to play on its original launch site of Slingo.com, and via the many Gaming Realms powered platforms available in the UK. It is also now frequently licenced by other casino operators, so it is widely available throughout the United Kingdom online casino market.
