Bet365 was founded and is run by the publicity-shy Denise Coates, one of the few women to control a major gambling group in what is undoubtedly a very male dominated industry. The group really is a family firm, with the shares largely controlled by Denise, together with her brother John and father Peter.
The online business was founded in 2000 by Denise, although Peter had begun the original “real world” betting shop firm in 1974. Denise became its Managing Director in 1995. The company sold off its high street outlets to Coral in 2005 and now operates purely online. It is now one of the world’s largest online gambling companies.
Another unique feature of this group is its unusual decision to remain “onshore” and pay its full and fair share of tax to the UK Government. The company has a three year deal for the sponsorship of Premiership football club Stoke City, via her fellow shareholder and father Peter Coates, who is the chairman of both the gambling group and Stoke City FC. Bet365 are also renowned for their innovative and eye-catching TV advertising, featuring the well-known cockney actor Ray Winstone.
The group have a headquarters in Stoke-on-Trent, with further offices in Australia and Gibraltar. Bet 365 Bingo is licensed and registered via Gibraltar and is regarded as fully compliant with UK gambling regulations.
