Realistic Games confound many of the stereotypes and norms of the online gaming industry. Compared to many of their youthful market rivals, they have been around for quite a while, having been originally founded back in 2002. They are not based in some hipster London location or hipster out of town location either. Instead they are based in the relatively unglamorous location of Reading, Berkshire, just along the M4 from Slough (sorry Reading, I know it is a nice place really).
This success with the big corporate sites saw the company diversify from purely games design into providing the platform software which powers the sites themselves. This move into Business to Business (B2B) services has also been a marked success, with contracts drawn up with several of their high street betting partners. Bet 365, Bet Victor, Ladbrokes and Paddy Power were just some of the many industry behemoths who liked what they saw and climbed on board.
But of course it’s the games themselves that games players like us are really interested in. And whilst it is true that the company really is focused on the B2B side of its business these days, there are quite a few classics in its range. Tutankhamun, Super Graphics Upside Down, Double Your Dough and Fruit Factory are just a few of its more famous designs. My favourite remains the wacky 1950s sci-fi pastiche It Came From The Moon.
It’s not all about slots either, there are a few traditional table games in then portfolio too, including Blackjack and Roulette. Everything is available to play on any kind of device, from the moist compact smartphone to the widest screened desktop PC.
The decision to focus on the site architecture and platform design side of the industry means that this company has fewer games in its arsenal than you may expect from an outfit of this vintage. It is no longer prolific when it comes to releasing new creations either. As a result of these factors, it is no longer considered to be at the cutting edge of games design.
Nevertheless, its historic output is well designed and was well received at the time. And being such a venerable company in industry terms, many of its designs can already be regarded as classics.
